English Votes for English Laws

In the Conservative manifesto, a commitment was made to introduce English Votes for English Laws (EVEL) - and the Government have now delivered it.
It wasn't fair that Scottish MPs could have a decisive say on laws that only affect people who live in England, which is why the Government committed to introduce EVEL.

English Votes for English Laws helps ensure that MPs throughout the United Kingdom have an equal voice, and will strengthen the Union by giving English people more say over their own destiny. The new system has already been seen in action for the first time with the important Housing and Planning Bill.

Policies are being put into action to deliver security and opportunity for working people - and by introducing English Votes for English Laws, this One Nation Government is continuing to deliver on the commitments made to the British people at the last election.
