As many of you will be aware, the Post Office at Great Chesterford closed on a temporary basis in late 2013. Since that time, a service has been unable to be restored, but the Post Office have recently announced that from 8 February 2016 a new Home Service will be introduced to the area. The Home Service is designed to provide customers living in more remote communities access to certain Post Office products and services. Customers who register for the Home Service can telephone the neighbouring Postmaster to order or request Post Office products and services, including stamps, mail acceptance, travel money and manual bill payments and have these delivered direct to their door during a designated delivery slot.
The Postmaster from Stratton Way branch in Biggleswade will provide this Home Service to Great Chesterford, as the service currently comes to Duxford. Customers wishing to use the new service should contact the Postmaster directly to register, the contact details for which are:
Stratton Way Post Office,
35 Stratton Way, Biggleswade, SG18 0NS
Telephone: 01767 600059
The Post Office have assured me that they remain committed to establishing a service in Great Chesterford and will continue to monitor for any opportunities, but they believe that introducing a Home Service will be an effective interim measure that will help those customers who find it difficult to get to their nearest Post Office, and will enable them to access some key services provided by the Post Office. The introduction of this service will also help to assess the demand for Post Office services in the area, which may create opportunities to enhance the service going forward.
